The Board of Directors of the Canadian Beef Grading Agency (CBGA)
supported the promotion of brands by permitting CBGA to provide third
party certification of brands. Currently the CBGA has contracted to
provide assessment and monitoring of the following brands at the specified
plants. Individual brand specifications are available by emailing cbga@telus.net

Amendments - 2001-11-05
The following regulatory amendments were finally implemented on
November 5, 2001:
- Reduction of the minimum fat cover requirement for Canada's quality
grades (Canada A, AA, AAA and Prime) from 4mm to 2mm.
- Reduction of the minimum muscling requirement for Canada's quality
grades (Canada A, AA, AAA and Prime) from good to excellent with no
deficiencies.

Factsheet in Demand - Revised 2001-11-05
A simple two page brochure has been published by
the Canadian Beef Grading Agency. It describes grading beef in Canada, and
includes the revisions to accommodate the new regulatory changes. The brochure is
available free of charge through the Agency, call write or email for your copy.

Computer Visual Systems (CVS) - 1999-05-25
Using computers and video imaging the
CVS is designed to objectively assess carcass yield and degree of marbling. The joint
investors in CVS have made a submission to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for the
approval of CVS as an instrument to assist in beef carcass grading in Canada. Final
approval of CVS and subsequent amendments to the regulations to encompass instrument
grading are pending.

Beef Carcass Grading Reference - 1998-03-02
A pictorial guide to the Canadian Beef
Carcass Grading Regulation has been published by the Agency. It is twenty-five pages with
full colour plates bound in a three ring binder. Unit price is $23.36 plus Tax (Canadian).
